United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet's message to mark Human Rights Day 2020, on December 10.

The United Nations in Iraq organised on 19 November 2020 a one-day online media training workshop for 40 journalists from across the country to inform about the UN and the work of its Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes in Iraq.

Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, briefing at the open video-teleconference of the United Nations Security Council on the situation concerning Iraq, held via video-teleconference from Baghdad on Tuesday, 24 November 2020.

About 30,000 posters were handed out across Iraq’s 18 governorates, in a matter of three weeks, thanks to the painstaking efforts of over 100 youth volunteers contributing to the fight against COVID-19. These posters, the work of talented Iraqi artists, inform about the health instructions and break the silence on the human rights impact of COVID-19 in an innovative and colourful display that appeals to the public.

Working in Iraq as the Deputy Security Advisor for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) changed Fiona Beine’s preconceived ideas of working in a conflict zone. She encourages more women to get involved.

As UNAMI’s Head of Office & Security Coordinator in Iraq, Zohra Tabouri always knew she wanted to dedicate her career to the UN. This passion drives her strength when deployed to remote areas where few women go.

World Habitat Day 2020 offers an important opportunity to reflect on the effect of the COVID-19 crisis, and also how we can shape the future of human settlements more resilient.

International Translation Day (30 September) is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.
