Baghdad, 17 May 2013 –The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, urged all Iraqi leaders to do everything possible to protect Iraqi civilians as another wave of bombings hit the country during the past few days, claiming more innocent lives.

Baghdad, 16 May 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, welcomed the relocation of a first group of 14 Camp Liberty residents to Albania.

Baghdad, 3 May 2013 – On World Press Freedom Day, the United Nations calls for a renewed commitment to press freedom in Iraq, and urges an end to violence and intimidation against media.

Baghdad, 2 May 2013 – In a personal message to the Kurdistan Region President, Mr. Masud Barzani, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, welcomed Kurdistan Region ministers resuming, as of today, their participation in the Cabinet’s sessions, as well as the return of the Kurdistan Region members of parliament to the Council of Representatives.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is a cornerstone of good governance, sustainable development, and lasting peace and security.

Baghdad, 30 April 2013 - The United Nations today urged the Communication and Media Commission (CMC) to reconsider its decision to suspend the licenses of several TV stations in Iraq.

Baghdad, 30 April 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, welcomed the successful outcome of yesterday’s meeting in Ramadi between the protest leaders, senior governorate officials and military and police commanders.

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the upsurge of violence throughout Iraq that has left many dead and injured hundreds over the past week.  He expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the wounded a speedy recovery.

Baghdad, 28 April 2013 – UNDP has signed grant agreements with eight Civil Society Organization (CSO) consortia in Iraq, representing 31 local CSOs across the country.
