Baghdad, 14 September 2013 –  The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG), Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, calls on all political entities to fully cooperate with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) for the upcoming Kurdistan Governorate Council Elections scheduled for 21 November, and urges them to submit their lists of candidates before tomorrow's deadline.

Baghdad, 12 September 2013 – The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG), Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, condemns in the strongest terms yesterday’s suicide bomb attack against a mosque in the northern area of Baghdad, which killed and injured dozens of worshipers, as they were exiting after evening prayers. 

Baghdad, 12 September 2013 – The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG), Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, announced that the last group of Camp Ashraf residents has successfully relocated to Camp Hurriya, pending their resettlement outside Iraq.

Erbil, 9 September 2013 (UNESCO) - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organized today 9 September 2013, an official ceremony to honour the young graduates that will be granted business loans by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in order for them to start their new businesses after successfully undergoing an entrepreneurship training, and submitting their business plans in the framework of the project "Fighting Youth Unemployment Through Education".

Baghdad, 8 September 2013 (UNESCO) - The 8th September of every year marks a special occasion with the world celebrating International Literacy Day. In 2013, this occasion takes an even deeper significance as this year's celebrations highlight a neglected, yet major aspect: placing education at the heart of development.   

Baghdad, 7 September 2013 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has been informed that the Government of Iraq has served an order to relocate the remaining residents of Camp Ashraf to Camp Hurriya. The United Nations believes that the Iraqi Government will move to enforce this order without delay.

UNHCR: Two million Syrians are refugees

Geneva, Tuesday 3 September 2013 - Today, the number of Syrian refugees passed the threshold of two million, and with no sign of this tragic outflow ending. The war is now well into its third year and Syria is haemorrhaging women, children and men who cross borders often with little more than the clothes on their backs.

Baghdad, 3 September 2013 - 24 hours after the tragic events that took place in Camp Ashraf, a UNAMI delegation led by the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG), Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, and including UNAMI Chief of Human Rights and of Medical Sections, conducted a visit to the camp yesterday, where they met separately with the camp’s surviving residents and the commander of Diyala’s Police.

New York, 1 September 2013 - The Secretary-General deplores the tragic events in Camp Ashraf today that have reportedly left 47 killed.  He expresses his sorrow and extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
