26 January 2020 To mark UN Education Day, partners from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), UNESCO, UNICEF and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) visited Al Siraj primary school in Ninewa Governorate, on 25 January. They joined the Ninewa Directorate of Education (DoE), parents, teachers and pupils to renew their commitment to the importance of the right to education.

26 January 2020 – Five years of conflict in Iraq has taken a huge toll on more than 5 million Iraqis who, at one point in time, have had to leave their areas of origin to move to safer places in the country. As many as half a million civilians have incurred some level of injury while thousands have lost limbs.

Baghdad, 15 January 2020 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq welcomes an additional contribution of DKK 29.5 million (over USD 4.4 million) from the Government of Denmark to further enable stabilization and humanitarian efforts through explosive hazard management in retaken areas of Iraq.

Erbil, Iraq, 14 January 2020: Technical teams from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG-I) visited on 12 Jan the WHO supported Isolation Unit in Al Jumhury Teaching Hospital in Erbil Governorate. The visit came to assess the preparedness of the facility and its Isolation Unit capacity to accommodate the seasonal influenza cases which have increased with the decrease of temperature in the region.

The United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement a project aimed at strengthening the capacity of Iraqi courts, judicial system and forensic capacity, with whom UNITAD works in the implementation of its mandate pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017).

Baghdad, Iraq, 13 January 2020 UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, welcomes the generous contribution of USD 2 million in flexible funds from the Republic of Korea to support internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and refugees in Iraq.
