Baghdad, 18 March 2019: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency welcomed a generous contribution of USD 13 million from the Government and people of Japan to protect and assist Internally Displaced People (IDPs), returnee families, and Syrian refugees across Iraq. Japan’s funding will help UNHCR work with local stakeholders and partners to support the targeted communities with cash assistance, quick impact projects, legal assistance, and psychosocial prevention and response activities in response of sexual and gender-based violence.

Baghdad, 8 January 2019 - - The World Health Organization (WHO) extends its gratitude to the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (BPRM) for the generous contribution of US$ 2.5 million to increase the health security and resilience of Syrian refugees living in Iraq.

BAGHDAD, 22 February 2017 – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of US$7 million from the Government of Japan, which will be used to provide vital food assistance to thousands of Iraqi families affected by the ongoing crisis in Mosul as well as Syrian refugees living in camps in Iraq.

Amman, 5 December 2016 - With the conflict in Syria well into its sixth year and with little progress on the political front, United Nations Agencies and NGO partners today appealed for US$4.69 billion in new funding to continue vital work over the next two years.

Baghdad/Erbil, 30 November 2015: Kyung-wha Kang, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs visited Baghdad and Erbil to discuss the humanitarian crisis. “The human cost of the crisis is devastating. We are extremely worried that all indicators point to a dramatically worsening situation in the months ahead,” Ms. Kang said. “I spoke with women who had lost virtually everything. If we are to succeed in responding to their most basic needs, we need increased capacity, as well as improved access and security.
