On 28 and 29 November 2018, UNAMI Human Rights Office (HRO) held a two-day training workshop for Youths in Baghdad. The participants were from Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala and Diyala Governorates. A total of 31 participants (13 males and 18 females) from various backgrounds and organisations such as the Bar Association, persons with disabilities, ethnic and religious minority groups, academics, university students and human rights activists attended the workshop.
Erbil, Kurdistan Region - On 15 November 2018, the UNAMI Human Rights Office delivered a training course on freedom of opinion and expression, the right of assembly, and the importance of responsible journalism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for representatives of the media, civil society activists, members of the Kurdistan Region Independent Board of Human Rights and other professionals advocating for freedom of expression and freedom of assembly.
BAGHDAD/GENEVA (6 November 2018) – More than 200 mass graves containing the remains of thousands of victims have been discovered in areas formerly controlled by ISIL in Iraq, according to a UN report released Tuesday. The report highlights the legacy of ISIL’s relentless campaign of terror and violence and victims’ calls for truth and justice.
