Erbil, 26 October 2016– The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Toyota Iraq launched a flagship job placement and vocational training programme to provide young, displaced Iraqis with access to sustainable income opportunities. This comes nearly four months after both parties signed an agreement in Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Erbil, Iraq, 26 October 2016: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has begun airlifting more than 7,000 tents to Erbil from emergency warehouses in Dubai and Amman to assist Iraqis displaced as a result of the ongoing Mosul offensive.

Iraq, 25 October 2016 - A new portal has been launched on the IOM Iraq Displacement Tracking Matrix website to provide up-to-date figures on populations displaced following the military operations launched on 17 October to retake the city of Mosul from ISIL.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and its partners in Duhok have begun to help the first influx of displaced Iraqis fleeing villages near Mosul, as a government offensive to re-take Iraq’s second-largest city continues.

In a worst-case scenario, the humanitarian operation in Mosul may be the single largest and most complex in the world in 2016. IOM stands ready to assist displaced populations across the country through an array of humanitarian responses.

(Baghdad, 17 October 2016): The intensification of military operations to retake the city of Mosul from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) could affect up to 1.5 million people in the city. Up to 1 million girls, boys, women and men may be forced from their homes, of which up to 700,000 may be in need of shelter assistance. Up to 200,000 people may be displaced in the first weeks of the operations. The humanitarian community, UN Agencies and NGOs, have been planning and readying assistance for months.

14 October 2016 - IOM in Iraq is providing emergency shelter and camp coordination and camp management (CCCM) support for more than 12,900 internally displaced Iraqis living in camps in Fallujah district, Anbar governorate. These activities are made possible by a USD 1 million donation from the Government of Japan.

14 October 2016: To prepare for the expected displacement of people fleeing Mosul during military operations to retake the city from ISIL, IOM, at the request of the Government of Iraq and in collaboration with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, has agreed to construct emergency sites in Ninewa governorate. These will eventually provide shelter for up to 200,000 civilians who may be displaced in the first weeks of the military operations.
