SRSG Briefings to the Security Council

Mister President, thank you so much
Distinguished members of the Security Council,

Iraq has not left the headlines in recent months, as domestic, regional and international events have continued to take their toll on the country.

Briefing to the Security Council by Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert
3 December 2019

Madam President,
Distinguished members of the Security Council,

In recent months, I have consistently referred to urgent unfinished domestic business in Iraq. Perhaps inevitably, today I will brief on protests and civil unrest.

Madam President,
Distinguished members of the Security Council,

New York, 21 May 2019

Mr. President,
Distinguished members of the Security Council,

Mr. President,
Distinguished members of the Security Council,

Mr. President,
Distinguished members of the Security Council,
I am honoured to brief you today for the very first time in my capacity.
As you know, the collaborative spirit between the leading parliamentary blocs four months ago allowed the consensual nomination of Mr. Adel Abdul-Mahdi as the Prime Minister-designate.

Mr. President,

Distinguished members of the Security Council,

Mr. President,

Distinguished members of the Security Council,

Madam President,
Following the parliamentary elections on 12 May 2018, complaints and allegations of electoral fraud and mismanagement resulted in the decision to conduct a partial manual ballot recount.

Madam President,

Distinguished members of the Security Council,
I have the honour to present the first report of the Secretary-General pursuant to resolution 2421 (2018), as well as the nineteenth report of the Secretary-General pursuant to paragraph 4 of resolution 2107 (2013) on the issue of missing Kuwaiti and third-country nationals and property.
