Thank you, Mr. President.
I am honoured to present to the Council today the first report of the Secretary-General pursuant to paragraph 6 of resolution 2061 (2012) (S/2012/848) on the activities of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). I shall also brief Council members on the most recent developments in Iraq.

I am pleased to introduce to the Council the third report of the Secretary-General pursuant to paragraph 6 of resolution 2001 (2011) on the activities of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
I will also brief Council members on the most recent developments in Iraq.

This summit comes at a momentous time for Iraq and the Arab world.
 
I congratulate the people and Government of Iraq for hosting it.

Good morning.

It is my great pleasure to be here this morning and to be part of this meeting dedicated to the improvement of the lives of the large number of Iraqis who have been displaced over the course of the past eight years, and sometimes longer. عربي

1. It is a great pleasure and an honor to be here today. I would like to thank you for inviting me to introduce the report of the Secretary-General (S/2011/736) on the activities of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, and to brief you on the latest developments in the country.

On 31 October 2000, the Security Council adopted resolution (S/RES/1325)  on women and peace and security. The resolution reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction. It also stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.

27 April, Baghdad-Iraq (WHO)- The Government of Iraq is introducing Hib (Haemophilus influenza type b) pentavalent (five-in-one) and Rota vaccines in the routine immunization programme starting from mid of June this year to safeguard children from definite vaccine-preventable diseases.

8 April 2011 (UN News Centre) – Ad Melkert took up his current assignment as the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in the country (UNAMI) in July 2009. He previously served as the Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York. Mr. Melkert’s long-standing involvement in issues of international and development cooperation goes back further, having also served on the Board of Directors of the World Bank and as a Member of Parliament and Minister in the Netherlands.
