New York, 5 August 2011 - United Nations Secretary-General BAN Ki-moon today announced his intention to appoint Mr. Martin Kobler of Germany as his Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).  He will replace Ad Melkert of the Netherlands who served in Iraq since July 2009. The Secretary-General is grateful for Mr. Melkert’s leadership of UNAMI in implementing its mandate under Security Council resolution 1770 (2007) and subsequent resolutions.

Baghdad, 16 June 2011: Under the auspices of UNAMI and within the context of the Standing Consultative Mechanism (SCM), the Special Representative of the Secretary General, Mr. Ad Melkert, hosted a meeting today for Kirkuk\'s Kurdish, Arab, Turkoman and Christian members of the Council of Representatives in order to discuss ways forward on issues related to Kirkuk including Provincial Council elections and power sharing.

New York-Baghdad, 15 June 2011- The UN\'s top political official and head of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs, Under-Secretary General B. Lynn Pascoe,  visited Iraq from 11-14 June 2011.

Basrah, 9 June 2011 – Under the title, “Rethinking Strategies for a Sustainable Future”, the national conference on the Marshlands was held in Basrah on 6 – 7 June, in order to build a national consensus on the basic principles that will guide future projects and activities in the Marshlands and raise awareness of the prospects for rehabilitating the area.

BAGHDAD/GENEVA/NEW YORK-Tuesday, 07 June 2011:  At the end of his 10-day visit to Iraq, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, Ivan Šimonović, today urged the government to do more to protect civilians from violence.

Baghdad: 4 June 2011: The Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights, with the support of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), is organizing a national consultative conference on the Government’s draft national Action Plan on Human Rights to be held from 5 to 7 June 2011 at the premises of the Council of Representatives.

Baghdad, 26 May 2011 -- Under the auspices of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), a meeting was held yesterday, 25 May 2011, by the Standing Consultation Mechanism to advance the resolution of the Disputed Internal Boundaries issues. Attention was given to the security arrangements in the respective areas.  Furthermore the participants discussed ways for expediting the holding of provincial council elections in Kirkuk and for normalizing relations between parties in Ninewa.
