Baghdad, 9 April, 2013 (WHO) - Activities across Iraq were held today marking the World Health Day amid calls for intensified efforts to prevent and control high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, among Iraqi population. Ministry of Health led the Health Day activities emphasizing the importance of this major public health problem which affects about one billion people around the world in general and four million Iraqis alone.

Baghdad, 6 April 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, condemns in the strongest terms the suicide attack on an open-air election rally in Baquba today that killed and injured dozens of people.

Baghdad, 04 April 2013 – Iraq continues to be one of the most contaminated countries in the world with landmines and unexploded ordinance. Today, on the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, the United Nations calls for more progress to eliminate the threat of landmines to Iraqis.

Baghdad, 2 April 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, today visited the “Al-Rasul Al-A’tham” Husseiniya in Kirkuk and met with cleric Muhsin Al-Battat, who was wounded in the attack on the mosque last week. He also had a meeting with the Governor of Kirkuk, Mr. Najmuddin Omar Karim, with whom he discussed political developments and in particular the question of elections in the province.

Attacks on Iraqi media unacceptable - UN

Baghdad, 2 April 2013 – The United Nations strongly condemns the attacks that targeted journalists and media facilities in Baghdad on 1 April. “Assaults against media organizations or journalists are unacceptable under any circumstances," the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Mr. Kobler said, urging the government of Iraq to ensure that media professionals are protected against all forms of intimidation and violence because of their opinions or thoughts.

UN Envoy meets IHEC Board of Commissioners

Baghdad, 2 April 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, today met with the IHEC Board of Commissioners to exchange views on the state of preparedness for the upcoming Governorate Council elections.

Baghdad, 1 April 2013 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Martin Kobler, participated in the official Easter mass celebrated by His Beatitude, Patriarch of the Catholic Chaldean Community, Louis Raphael I Sako, and Father Jameel Misan,  at the Al-Su’oud (Ascension) Church in Baghdad on 31 March.

4 April 2013 - Eliminating the threat of mines and explosive remnants of war is a crucially important endeavour that advances peace, enables development, supports nations in transition and saves lives.

Baghdad, 28 March 2013 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, visited Basra today where he met with the Governor, Dr. Khalaf Abdul-Samad, and with the Director of the Basra office of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), Mr. Hazim Joda. He also paid a visit to the Black Iraqi community and met with one of its representatives, Mr. Jalal Thiyab Thijeel.
