Erbil, 03 February 2020 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq’s Ministry of Planning, in order to provide strategic guidance and technical support for the development of KRG Vision 2030. Held in Erbil on 03 February 2020, the signing reaffirms the Region’s commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Baghdad, 1 February 2020 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, welcomes the designation of a prime minister, Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi. Baghdad, Iraq; 30 January 2020 - The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) has contributed CAD 20 million in support of UNFPA’s humanitarian response focusing on life-saving assistance aimed at alleviating the suffering of women and girls across Iraq.

Baghdad, 29 January 2020 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq welcomes an additional contribution of EUR 2 million (approximately USD 2.2 million) from the Federal Republic of Germany for the survey and clearance of explosive hazards in support of humanitarian and stabilization initiatives.

26 January 2020 To mark UN Education Day, partners from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), UNESCO, UNICEF and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) visited Al Siraj primary school in Ninewa Governorate, on 25 January. They joined the Ninewa Directorate of Education (DoE), parents, teachers and pupils to renew their commitment to the importance of the right to education.

Baghdad, 26 January - The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) welcomes an additional contribution of EUR 600,000 (approximately USD 670,000) from the Government of France dedicated to explosive hazard management activities that aim at enabling returns in retaken areas of Iraq.

Baghdad, 20 January 2020 – With public demonstrations across many parts of Iraq in their fourth month, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, is urging a renewed push for reform and expressing concern about ongoing human rights violations. She emphasizes the importance of pressing ahead to meet the needs of the Iraqi people: building resilience at the state and societal level is challenging but essential work.
