Children, the world over, have different stories to tell based on their experiences. In Iraq, the children displaced by the conflict caused by the terrorist Daesh have their own stories to tell. Some of the children at Harsham Camp for the Displaced, in Erbil, have been reflecting on their aspirations and expressing themselves through drawings, in an event organized by the Public Information Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Iraq - Ms. Suhair al-Qaisi, an Iraqi news personality, prominent in Middle East broadcasting, and a World Food Programme (WFP) Celebrity Partner, speaks about her role in support of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Mosul crisis. She shares her firsthand experiences and the pain of witnessing the suffering of children and the women of Mosul, whom she calls ‘the real heroes’.

15 May is the International Day of Families which aims to highlight the importance of the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development (SDG4) through promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence.

As women continue to seek for better and equal paying jobs and leadership positions in order to empower them to make socio-economic and political decisions, there is a strong need for them to fight against negative phenomena, such as corruption, which could deter their progress in achieving gender equality by 2030.
