The Special Representative expresses condolences for the families of the dead and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
“This is very disturbing news and a matter of serious concern. This latest attack comes two days after a Turkmen candidate’s motorcade was shot at on the Baghdad-Kirkuk road. Also today, the car of a candidate from Al-Wataniya Coalition was reportedly fired upon south of Baghdad. None of the candidates was reported hurt today, but earlier this month a candidate for the Al-Hal party was injured in suicide bombings that targeted the party offices in Heet in Anbar Governorate. I reiterate my call on the Iraqi authorities to ensure the security of the political forces, representatives, the candidates and the voters and urge extra vigilance during the coming period to foil the attempts to intimidate and to undermine peace and stability.”
