UN agencies are working with local officials and the Iraq Red Crescent Organization to deliver humanitarian relief to families affected by the bombings. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has provided kits of basic household supplies to some 50 families whose homes were badly damaged. SRSG Melkert urged local authorities to ensure access for the ongoing humanitarian effort.

Mr. Melkert expressed the United Nations’ sorrow and sincere condolences to the bereaved families and its wishes for full and speedy recovery for the wounded.
