Baghdad, 11 May 2010 – Today marked a historic moment for the United Nations and the Government of Iraq, with the signing of the first United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for Iraq for the period 2011 – 2014. This endorsement solidifies a strong foundation of partnership and cooperation between the United Nations Country Team, the Government of Iraq and national partners, and sets the tone for a new framework of development for the country.

Kirkuk, 04 May 2010 – With renewed commitment to implement a robust vaccination programme and to provide every mother and child in Iraq with vital vaccinations, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Iraq in collaboration with the Health Directorate in Kirkuk recently held a two-day workshop to kick-start the vaccination programme in the governorate.
 

Baghdad, 3 May 2010 -- A call for a Freedom of Information Law was supported by a chorus of over 1000 journalists, reporters and bloggers from all over Iraq, in observance of World Press Freedom Day. Enduring hardships, lack of opportunities and scarcity of resources, they strive to make ends meet while remaining optimistic about the future. Baghdad -- On March 7, Iraqis will vote for 325 members of the Council of Representatives, the nation’s parliament, from 18 governorate constituencies, the third election conducted since 2003.

At a press conference held at IHEC Media Center on 24 February 2010, IHEC Commissioners and UNAMI’s Chief Electoral Advisor to the IHEC briefed the media on the latest status of election preparations for the Council of Representatives’ Election.

On 6 February 2010, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) for Iraq held a joint press conference with UNAMI, to address both international and national media in Iraq. The objectives of the conference included, among others, announcing the start of the election campaign and laying emphasis on the restrictions during campaigning ahead of the Council of Representatives Election, scheduled for 7 March 2010.
